Caldas is located directly south of Aburrá Valley. It is encompassed by mountains that provide relief for the central mountain range known as the Andes Mountains. The Medellin River crosses at this point and is worth your time to explore. Caldas sits just 14 miles from Medellin, but is truly off the beaten path in the Medellin area. It is still close enough to the city for easy access to and from the major hotspots around Medellin. This is one of the best places in the Medellin area to explore the mountains, take in the wonderful nature, view some of Colombia’s most exotic birds, and truly disconnect from the outside world. Caldas is home to many different bicycle trails, horseback riding, and many other outdoor nature activities. The town is also known for its Caterdral de Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes; it is a beautiful big cathedral right in the middle of town that makes for a lovely Colombian scene.
