Honeymooning in Cartagena
We’re not exaggerating when we say that Cartagena is one of the most romantic cities on the planet. Blessed with a tropical sun-drenched position on the Colombian Caribbean coast, it’s also one of the best preserved colonial cities in Latin America – and did we mention how friendly the people are? Take it from us, you will never run out of beautiful places for photos in this town and this is one of the reasons it’s a popular destination for newly weds.
Our 3-day honeymoon gives you a flavour of the diversity of loved up locations in and around the city. The biggest risk is that you won’t want to leave!
Day 1
Don’t worry about getting into Cartagena. Our chauffeur will pick you up from the airport and help you check in to wherever you choose to stay. We highly recommend spending your first night in a boutique city hotel with a breathtaking view and a pool – maybe Casa San Agustin or Hotel Amarla – or go all out and rent your own private villa in Centro Historico (we can help with that!)
Cartagena is a very safe city and also very walkable as long as you can stand the heat! The secret is to “cogelo suave” (which means “take it easy”). Take a wander through the historical centre where the balconies are abundant with flowers and each house tells its own beautiful story. You’ll want to pause on every street (we’re not joking) for photos, before finding some shade for a lemonade or an ice cream.
On your first day, we can organise your very own photographer to accompany you for a photo shoot – not only can he tell you the stories of the city, he also knows all the best spots (and moments) for that perfect photo. Before sunset, as the heat of the day subsides, head to the walls to watch the sun go down and your photographer will get one of those iconic photos of you together, should you desire.
The city has so many choices when it comes to food and drink, but for a honeymoon trip, make a beeline to hotel Movich for one of the best views of the city and your first cocktail of the evening. Cartagena is swiftly becoming a centre for fine dining and we can ensure you get a special reservation for dinner, where you’ll be treated like royalty. When you book with us, we can help you choose the right place for you and make recommendations for the rest of your evening.
Day 2
You cannot visit Cartagena, without taking a trip to the Rosario Islands, site of one of the most important coral reefs in Colombia and perfect for a romantic day away from the crowds in your own private boat complete with champagne. Catch some rays onboard and a refreshing dip, or take a paddleboard or snorkelling trip – you may even be lucky enough to see dolphins. Nearly 30 islands make up the Rosarios and our boat captains know the most beautiful and most secluded spots, so you can sunbathe and swim in your own tropical paradise.
If you’re an island lover, you will not want to miss a night on the island of Tierra Bomba at Blue Apple Beach – a luxurious boutique beach hotel with just a few cabanas and rooms set back from an incredibly quiet beach. This is the place to get a relaxing couple’s massage, before some more fizz in your very own cabana plunge pool. As it’s your honeymoon, the team will arrange an extra special meal for 2 on the beach – it will truly feel like the best kind of deserted island of your dreams.
Day 3
Whether you wake early for a spot of yoga, a dip in the pool or the sea, or take off for an early morning horse ride, you’ll be welcomed with a delicious breakfast, before your boat picks you up for the 20-minute ride back to Cartagena.
As this is your last day, we recommend a spot of shopping, before it gets too hot. There are so many boutiques selling fashion, art and food that you can’t buy elsewhere, and maybe a light lunch before an afternoon at the pool. You’re on honeymoon – why not live like movie stars?
For your last evening in the city, take a sunset catamaran cruise around the bay, before a cocktail at El Barón and you could not go far wrong with the tasting menu at Carmen. If you still have energy, later in the evening, head to Salsa Show 1968 for a lesson in salsa and a dance show you’ll never forget, before you cross the street to dance late into the night at Cafe Havana. No one goes to Cartagena without dancing a little salsa, you know!
This 3-day honeymoon package is just one of the options for your special vacation. Whatever your desire, Hi Cartagena can help you with an unforgettable and stress-free honeymoon, so you can relish the romance on one of the most special trips you’ll ever make.
